2021 – A record setting year

Navigating lockdowns, alert levels and traffic light restrictions.

2021 was both a record setting year and a challenging one. Fortunately, our investment technology made it possible for our teams to keep working through the pandemic. Working from home presented plenty of challenges – supermarket shopping, homeschooling, getting some exercise in and just trying to maintain our sanity. 

Ensuring the health and wellbeing of our team was paramount to the business. We worked really hard at Damerell Group to set some structure in place around each day to support our team. Our daily team Google Hangouts was a great platform for our salespeople to stay connected. Lockdown didn’t stop us from holding our Friday drinks virtually, with fun competitions as well as celebrating individual salesperson successes.

Lockdown was also a great opportunity to focus on the training and development of all our teams. We ran a number of online sessions with Josh Phegan and Mark Mcleod. We also continued our weekly auction training with Daniel Coulson.

Under the traffic light system we have welcomed the return of weekend open homes. Keeping our sellers, buyers and team safe is extremely important to us. As an industry we are dealing with both vaccinated and unvaccinated buyers, sellers and salespeople. Our leadership team have developed strict processes to ensure we stick to the Government guidelines and keep our community safe.

The new digital landscape

Covid has fast-tracked the use of many technologies which improve the customer experience for buyers and sellers. The business was already strongly positioned with our digital offering and we were able to pivot quickly to take advantage in this space. Our salespeople delivered over 800 digital appraisals thanks to our market-leading appraisal system.

Due to the pandemic shutting down printers, we transitioned our Quarterly Magazine to a digital version. The magazine was delivered to thousands of inboxes across Auckland. Going digital has given us a fantastic insight into what content our clients are engaging with and how we can evolve the magazine to become even better.

Auctions

We’re a people-focused business. We love the buzz and energy of an in-person auction experience and most of our buyers and sellers do too. Lockdown has proven, however, just how capable and agile we can be as an agency to operate remotely when required to. We’ve proven now many times over that we can very successfully sell houses via online auctions.

There’s no reason why video auctions can’t become mainstream from a technology point of view. We’ve received great feedback from both sides on how easy the whole process was. We’ve also invested in ensuring our team and their clients and customers can sign their contract easily via a digital platform. Within minutes of buying or selling a house, a contract is sitting in their inbox waiting for them. 

There certainly doesn’t appear to be any hesitancy to get involved. Some of our auctions have had 10+ bidders online. Our Auction Live feature has been on offer to buyers and sellers via our website since early 2020 and we see thousands of page hits every month, even before lockdown. This shows us that people are keen to use digital channels to keep their finger on the pulse of the property market.

The North Shore

The new kids on the Damerell Block, our Takapuna Team should take out the prize for resilience. Within 10 days of joining Damerell Group they found themselves in lockdown, with an entirely new team, new internal systems and procedures. The 12 weeks that followed ensured unprecedented focus on engagement with the other offices across the Group. The Takapuna Team have demonstrated their enduring commitment to achieving results for our clients and customers in spite of the changes, and uncertainty during 2021.  

We opened a new office in Hinnemoa St, Birkenhead Point and welcomed Julie Shand to our Team. Julie is a successful agent and passionate local concentrating on Birkenhead and Northcote Point. The Birkenhead Team performed exceptionally well despite the challenges with Covid 19 lockdowns and successfully mastered new ways of working, resulting in fantastic results for our Vendors and Buyers alike.

It’s been another record-setting year for our team. It was also the year I believe we will look back on as one that signified a shift in the way we work and provide services to our clients.

We made a couple of key announcements in 2021. Our new Ponsonby Offices will offer a world-class space to work from. Designed to provide amazing collaborative spaces the offices will be a real feature of the Ponsonby Road landscape.

Our decision to purchase the Takapuna Office was significant and we are excited to provide the people of the North Shore another choice of agency. We also invested in a new space for our Birkenhead Point team.

Our teams in the Grey Lynn, Mount Albert and Ponsonby offices, continue to lead the market in Greater Ponsonby. I am exceptionally proud of the work they have put in this year.

We are a locally owned and operated business providing career opportunities for over 160 people. Our focus is on supporting and developing our people to grow and develop their careers. Damerell Group was recognised as one of Ray White International’s top five businesses. I am especially proud of our award for the top office for customer satisfaction. These awards are a recognition and celebration of the hard work and dedication of the entire team.

We have provided support to a number of local charities including Women’s Refuge, Rainbow Youth and Harbour Basketball. We are looking forward to continuing our community support throughout 2022.

Fab Feb fundraised over $7,000 for Rainbow Youth.

2022 will see our team continue to grow with a focus on health and well-being, community engagement and sponsorship. We will be looking to expand on our strong training and development opportunities for our salespeople enabling them to deliver outstanding service and results.
